If you have sent a freshly written message a little too quickly, Outlook gives you a maximum of ten seconds to cancel the sending of your e-mail. If the recipient is using some other mail system, the 'recall' will simply appear as an additional message with some canned text explaining that the sender 'wishes to recall' the first message.
